The control of brown rot (Monilia spp.) in stonefruit often entails unexpected results, especially in Mirabelle plums, which have a fragile epidermis. In 1998, analysis of the marketable fruit after harvest with regard to mineral composition and sanitary protection showed the interaction between the mineral composition of the fruits and their susceptibility to brown rot. Fungicide treatments limited rapid contamination outdoors (under shelter), as well as spread of the disease in cold storage, when combined with a high Cu level. Insecticide treatments reduced the spread of brown rot outdoors, but may also account for the absence of contamination in cold storage.
