The respiration intensity of healthy vegetable seeds changes naturally after harvesting depending on the storage duration. The respiration intensity of plant seeds infected by phytopathogenic fungi decreased sharply 12 or 24 months after harvesting; this was associated with a reduction of the seed's viability. The higher the intensity of fungal development after harvesting, the higher the level of seed respiration. When the fungus achieves maximum development the germ perishes.
