บทคัดย่อ

Strategies to maintain grain quality in the humid tropics.

The factors influencing stored grain quality in Indonesia, including initial grain quality, the physical structure of the storage, the infestation rates of pests in storage and treatments during storage, are considered. The lack of national grades and standards for grain, the lack of post-harvest facilities, the lack of knowledge in pest management and the absence of strong linkages in research and extension are considered as constraints in grain quality maintenance. A program of integrated pest management was implemented in the early 1980s to minimize loss and maintain grain quality. The strategy includes the selection of grain quality during procurement, storage area hygiene and sanitation maintenance, inspection, application of various pest control measures and the implementation of controlled atmosphere storage technology for long-term grain storage.
