Data for physiological interpretation of fruit load on storage quality of 'Jonathan' apples.

Data from a long-term fertilizer trial at Ernyei, Hungary, was analysed in order to determine to what extent the nutritional status of the apple tree affects fruit storage quality. During the trial, leaf and fruit nutrient contents were measured regularly, and fruits were harvested 140 days after full bloom and stored for 5 months in air at 2 deg C. Relationships between storage quality of fruits and the contents of individual nutrients were weak. However, the relationship was slightly stronger when yield was considered in combination with nutrient contents; together they accounted for 30-40% of the variation in the storage quality of apple fruits.
