A comprehensive survey of North Indian fruit markets was undertaken during May-July 1997-98, to determine various fungal pathogens causing rot of sweet cherry. Frequent isolations from infected cherries yielded nineteen fungal pathogens of which Aspergillus ochraceus, A. tamarii, Penicillium citrinum, P. oxalicum, P. chrysogenum, P. expansum, Phoma herbarum, Myrothecium roridum, Lasiodiplodia theobromae, Fusarium solani and Colletotrichum gloeosporioides [Glomerella cingulata] are new records on this fruit from India. Pathogenicity of isolated organisms were confirmed. All these pathogens caused appreciable quantitative loss of this perishable fruit.
