Technical viability of soybean seed treatment with fungicides before storage.

This study was carried out to test the technical viability of soyabean seed treated with fungicides before storage. Soyabean seeds of cultivars FT-Estrela, Embrapa 64 and FT-2000 were treated with fungicides, and subsequently stored in conventional warehouses at Ponta Pora, Dourados and Sao Gabriel do Oeste, respectively. The seeds were treated using Amazone Transmix equipment. The following parameters were evaluated bimonthly: seed health (blotter test), standard germination test, tetrazolium test (vigour and viability), sand emergence and field emergence (in soil with normal and low water availability). The results showed no negative effects of the fungicide treatment on seed quality during storage. Seed germination and vigour, as well as seedling emergence, were not significantly affected during the 180 days of storage. The best conservation during storage was observed for treated seeds when compared with non-treated seeds. Thus, the technical viability of fungicide treatment of soyabean seed

s before storage was demonstrated. Germination, emergence and vigour were reduced when the benzimidazole fungicides (thiabendazole, carbendazim and benomyl) were applied alone on soyabean seeds.
