Different calcium chloride (CaCl2.2H2O) concentrations were tested as postharvest treatments of guavas cv. 'Branca de Kumagaii' by the temperature differential method (fruits at 26 deg C and solution at 5 deg C by 2 hours) in order to study its effect on control of anthracnose decay caused by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides [Glomerella cingulata]. It was shown that calcium chloride stimulated the development of this fungus up to a certain concentration, above that, there was an inhibitory effect. Trials in vitro with 3 pathogenic strains confirmed the results observed in inoculated fruits.
