Airfreight Galia melons were stored at 5 deg C and 8 deg C for 14 days. Under each temperature regime 50% of the melons were individually enclosed in a recycling bag. Additionally, melons were stored under controlled atmosphere (CA) conditions (12% CO2, 4% O2, 80% RH) at 8 deg C for 14 days. Melons stored at 5 deg C maintained higher external and internal fruit quality attributes with respect to firmness, contents of sugar and TA and flavour assessment for the entire storage period of 14 days when compared with fruits stored at the higher temperature of 8 deg C and under CA conditions. Melons stored at 8 deg C under normal and CA conditions showed almost the same postharvest behaviour. No statistical differences between quality attributes of non-bagged and bagged melons were found.
