Effect of nitrogen on growth, flowering and postharvest life of rose cv. Arjun.

The influence of nitrogen on rose cv. Arjun was studied in a field trial conducted at New Delhi, India, during 1995-97. N was applied at 200, 300, 400 or 500 kg/ha per year and its effects on vegetative growth, flowering, postharvest life, cut flower quality and respiration rate of cut roses were studied. N at 400 kg/ha resulted in the highest flower yield (127.5 flowers/plant per year). The longest vase life (7.8 days), largest flower diameter (8.7 cm), and highest fresh and dry flower weights were recorded with 500 kg N/ha. This N rate gave the lowest respiration rates for the cut flowers.
