ROC26 - an early high sucrose cane variety with medium-large millable stalk.

Selected from the cross 71-296 x ROC11 made in 1987, ROC26 (original clone name 88-8476) was released in July 2000. ROC26 is an early maturing variety with a higher sugar content than ROC9, ROC15 and ROC16. It is characterized by good germination, strong tillering, long medium-large millable stalks, small green top, heavy yields and a slow postharvest deterioration rate. Mean cane yields of ROC26 exceeded that of ROC16 by 6.3% and 9.7% for plantcane and first ratoon crop, respectively. Mean sugar yields of ROC26 exceeded ROC16 by 10% and 11% for plantcane and first ratoon crop, respectively. It is resistant to common rust (Puccinia melanocephala) and orange rust, resistant or moderately resistant to downy mildew (Peronosclerospora sacchari), smut (Ustilago scitaminea, race 1), leaf blight (Leptosphaeria taiwanensis) and mosaic virus. ROC26 is recommended for cultivation on fertile loam, sandy loam or clay soils with a high water table and irrigation.
