Assessment of shelf life of chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) cultivars under storage at room temperature.

Mature green fruits of the chilli cultivars Hisar Shakti (HC-44), Hisar Vijay (HC-28), Pusa Jwala and NP46-A were packed in cardboard boxes and stored for 25 days at room temperature in 1996 and 1997. Minimum physiological loss in weight (PLW) and decay loss in fruits was observed in Hisar Shakti followed by Hisar Vijay whereas maximum PLW and decay loss in fruits was observed in NP46-A. Ascorbic acid and moisture content in fruits were highest throughout storage in Hisar Shakti and lowest in NP46-A. Hisar Shakti had the highest oleoresin content while NP46-A had the lowest on the same day of storage.
