Trichoderma harzianum (biotype Th4) has caused significant crop losses in the cultivation of the commercial mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) in Canada since 1990. Seven provinces have infestations and 2/3 of Ontario's mushroom farms are infected. This paper will review the development of management strategies through research efforts. Investigations were conducted both at mushroom farms and in a small-scale production facility. Management strategies against green mould disease developed through the research programme include: identification of the aggressive biotype through classical taxonomy or use of molecular markers, management of personnel flow on infected farms, prioritization of sanitation and hygiene targets, quarantine activities, use of pesticides, spawn treatments, spawn and supplement choices and postharvest temperature management of the spent substrate.
