Prospects for marketing of underutilized tropical fruits & vegetables in developed countries.

This paper notes that expansion of tropical fruit sales in developed countries has been limited by consumer ignorance and lack of sustained and ongoing research by producers in exporting countries and importers. The nutritional content of tropical fruits (examples of compositional content of five fruits are presented) confirm their high value. Recommendations are made for areas of applied research to increase the volume of sales. The research results need to be used to enlighten the consumer about the nutritional value of tropical fruits.
