Effect of different pulsing treatments on postharvest life of Gladiolus cv. Happy End.

Gladiolus cv. Happy End was tested for postharvest longevity after pulsing with solutions containing sucrose (5 and 8%), cobalt sulfate (2 and 4 mM), calcium chloride (2 and 4 mM), and silver thiosulfate (2 and 4 mM). Observations were recorded on water uptake, transpirational loss, opening of florets, change in fresh weight, and vase life. Cobalt sulfate (4 mM) increased water uptake and transpirational loss. Pulsing with sucrose, calcium chloride (4 mM), and cobalt sulfate (2 mM) increased the opening of florets. Vase life was improved by 1.5 days by pulsing with sucrose.
