Effect of plastic film and the storage time on postharvest of passion fruit.

Passion fruits (Passiflora edulis), with 40-50% yellow colour, were packed in plastic films (PVC and low-density polyethylene film) and stored under laboratory conditions (24 deg C, 60% RH) for 15 days to study the effect of plastic films and storage time on postharvest evolution. Low-density polyethylene film cover significantly affected the inner atmosphere. Plastic films reduced fruit dehydration but increased fruit diseases. The films did not affect physical characteristics of fruits and chemical characteristics of the juice. Increasing the storage time increased the loss of fresh matter and the number of rotted fruits alongwith a reduction in the total soluble solids, total titratable acid and ascorbic acid content.
