Influence of preharvest nutritional treatments on postharvest disorders of 'Fuerte' avocado fruits.

The effects of monopotassium phosphate (K and P) and the nutrient solution Alvaton (N, P and K at 7% each and microelements such as Fe, Cu, Zn, Mn and Mo) on the occurrence of brown spots in avocado cv. Fuerte were studied. Monopotassium phosphate (2% v/v) and Alvaton (4% v/v) were sprayed in July and August 1999 on avocado orchards in Israel. The harvested fruits were stored for 21 days at 4-5 deg C and for 7 days at 20 deg C prior to the evaluation of peel damage. Both treatments had a positive effect in reducing the extent of peel damage. However, monopotassium phosphate was more effective than Alvaton in orchards that showed extensive fruit disorder (>40%).
