Tomato fruit (Lycopersicon esculentum) cv. Rio Grande were harvested from plants fertilized with different doses (220 and 330 kg/ha) of potassium chloride, applied to the soil in three ways (in the centre, beside the plant and at the bottom of the furrow). Fruit were sorted, washed and stored in refrigerated rooms at temperatures of 10 and 15 deg C for 7, 14 and 21 days. Quality parameters such as soluble solid content, tritatable acidity, soluble solid content/titratable acidity ratio, pH, texture, colour (L*,a*,b*) were studied. Potassium chloride treatment and temperature of 15 deg C contributed to the redder fruit. The highest texture values were found at 10 deg C.
