Effect of growth regulators on the storage behaviour of Litchi (cv. Shahi).

Changes in the physicochemical constituents of litchi (Litchi chinensis) cv. Shahi fruits during storage at room temperature, as affected by 1% copper sulfate alone or in combination with 250 ppm 2,4-D, 500 ppm Alar [daminozide], or 1000 ppm Cycocel [chlormequat], were studied. Treatment with copper sulfate (1%)+2,4-D (250 ppm) was most affective in decreasing weight loss and size reduction and in maintaining acceptable fruit quality up to six days of storage, compared to the control fruits which started rotting after two days of storage. The maximum decrease in acidity and highest retention in ascorbic acid were recorded for copper sulfate (1%).
