In comprehensive storage trials on brinjal under ambient conditions, it was noticed that round fruited cultivars stored better as compared to long and oval types. Physiological loss in weight was significantly low (2%) in polypacked fruits (150 gauze) as compared to gunny bags packed fruits (13%) of cultivar CHBR-1 (round fruited) on 10th day of storage. Decay loss was significantly less in gunny bag packed fruits. Waxing of round-fruited cultivar H-8 with waxol 10% and 20% gave significantly better storage compared to waxing with mustard and refined oil (2%). Packing of each fruit of H-8 cultivar individually in polybag (150 gauze) and placing them in cardboard boxes reduced the postharvest losses during storage.
