Open storage of soybean seed in Croatia.

The ambient and seed temperature changes in an open warehouse were characterized to determine the rate of fluctuation in soyabean (cultivars Iva and Una) seed moisture, and to evaluate the influence of moisture fluctuation on seed germination according to the position in the stack. Seeds were stored in a warehouse in ambient conditions from December 1997 to April 1998, and from November 1998 to April 1999. Seeds were packed in bags, which were stacked 3 bags high. Seed temperature of both cultivars in the middle and top bags were significantly lower than the temperature in the bottom bags. Different moisture content and temperature of seeds of 2 soyabean cultivars, fluctuating according to the position in the stack, had no significant effect on seed germination during winter storage under ambient climatic conditions in Croatia.
