A study was conducted on cut roses cv. Raktagandha to assess the efficiency of sucrose, thiourea, citric acid, aluminium sulfate, calcium nitrate and silver thiosulfate as pulsing solutions for improving postharvest life and quality of cut roses. The treatments were single applications of sucrose, thiourea, citric acid, aluminium sulfate, calcium nitrate and silver thiosulfate; and mixed applications of thiourea, citric acid, aluminium sulfate, calcium nitrate or silver thiosulfate with sucrose. Sucrose + calcium nitrate treatment exhibited the maximum vase life of 10 days, whereas flower diameter was maximum (10.5 cm) in sucrose + aluminium sulfate treatment followed by aluminium sulfate alone (10 cm). Water uptake was maximum (22 ml) in sucrose + aluminium sulfate and sucrose + citric acid (21.0 ml) treatments. The increase in fresh weight was maximum with sucrose + silver thiosulfate (3.02 g) treatment on the third day while increase in dry weight was maximum (0.41 g) with sucrose + calcium nitrate treatment.
