Results of trials to control Penicillium digitatum and P. italicum at 2 packing centres for oranges (cv. Washington Navel) in Sardinia, Italy, are reported. Spraying with or immersion in the yeast 5A (Pichia guilliermondii) proved significantly more effective than treatments with the yeast Aspire (Candida oleophila). The application of thiabendazole (0.1 or 1.2 g/litre) following Aspire treatment was effective, while it was not effective after the 5A treatment.
