Effect of chitosan coating with appendix on postharvest physiology of strawberry fruits.

The effect of chitosan coating with appendix (tobacco extracting) on the postharvest physiology and quality of strawberry fruits was investigated. Vitamin C [ascorbic acid] content and superoxide dismutase activity were higher in fruits subjected to chitosan coating with appendix compared with fruits from the control and chitosan coating treatments. Decay rate, respiration rate, released C2H4 and malondialdehyde content were lower with chitosan coating with appendix compared with chitosan coating alone or the control.
