Effect of certain chemicals on postharvest life of rose.

The effects of vase solutions containing 4% sugar and 200 ppm citric acid with 50 ppm silver nitrate, 20 ppm gibberellic acid acid, 20 ppm NAA, 10 ppm abscisic acid, 10 ppm TIBA, 5 ppm daminozide, 200 ppm maleic hydrazide or 10 ppm paclobutrazol on the postharvest life of rose cv. Super Star were studied. Paclobutrazol gave the highest fresh weight on the third day (5.71 g) and the longest vase life (14.7 days). The greatest flower diameter was recorded for silver nitrate (15.0 cm), abscisic acid (14.4 cm) and paclobutrazol (14.7 cm). Solution uptake by flowers was most pronounced in vase solutions with silver nitrate (25.0 ml) and abscisic acid (22.0 ml).
