In experiments conducted in Sao Paulo state, Brazil, figs were picked at the beginning of maturation, cleaned, selected and packed in LDPE film of 6- (used as control), 10-, 15- and 22- micro m thickness. Fruits were then stored in a cold chamber at -0.5 deg C and 85-90% RH for 8 days. The results showed that fruits in 22- micro m film had the highest flesh firmness, best visual aspect, lowest total soluble solids (TSS) content, highest levels of total titratable acidity (TTA) and the lowest value of TSS/TTA ratio. All variants significantly differed from control in the loss of fresh mass.
