Post-harvest of cherries: experimental results for washing, selection, sizing and packing machines.

This study reports the results of experimental trials carried out in Apulia, Italy on two different plants for washing, selection, sizing and packing of cherries. The obtained results demonstrate that both the two plants enable high performances with regard both to the hourly production and to labour productivity. Moreover, the use of these plants gives the possibility of obtaining a product of excellent quality, without worms and defects, and it is possible to size the product in four different dimensions. This involves a significant added value that justifies the high expenses necessary to acquire, install and manage these plants.
