Combining ability of carrot storage durability and disease resistance.

Twenty-one hybrids from crosses made using carrot cytoplasmic male sterile (CMS) lines N 0557, N 0563, S 0380b, S 0494, S 0639, G 0198 and G 0300, and testers Vitanimaja 6, NIIOCH 336 and No. 01309 were evaluated in 1997-99 in Lithuania. Analysis of the general combining ability of the parental genotypes for storage durability showed that No. 01309 was the best parental genotype to transmit this trait to progeny. Phoma sp. resistance was observed in hybrids derived from crossings involving the CMS lines N 0557 and tester No. 01309.
