A study was conducted to determine the effect of postharvest application of growth regulators in extending the shelf life of sapota (Manilkara achras [Manilkara zapota]) fruits during storage at low temperature (12 deg C). Fruits were dipped for 5 minutes in GA3 (100 and 200 ppm), kinetin (100 and 200 ppm), 2,4-D (2 and 4 ppm), or distilled water (control). Fruits treated with 4 ppm 2,4-D and 200 ppm GA3 exhibited the longest shelf life of 32 days and 31.33 days, respectively, compared to the control (20 days). Comparative data on the physicochemical changes are tabulated.
