Effects of sodium benzoate, 1-methylcyclopropene and silver nitrate on vase life of Dendrobium ‘Walter Oumae’ 4N
The comparison of effects of sodium benzoate, 1-MCP and AgNO3 combined with 10% sucrose + 150 mg/L 8-HQS on vase life of Dendrobium “Walter Oumae” 4n, indicated that sodium benzoate and 1-MCP gave the results as well as AgNO3. The combination of 10% sucrose + 150 mg/L 8-HQS with 400 mg/L sodium benzoate had the longest vase life, followed by 30 mg/L AgNO3 and 1000 ppb 1-MCP with 14.2, 14.1 and 13.7 days, respectively. Furthermore, orchid flowers pretreated with 1000 ppb 1-MCP and held in 10% sucrose + 150 mg/L 8-HQS + 400 mg/L sodium benzoate had the longest vase life of 17.1 days with 63.17% blossom.
