Extension of shelf life of an asparagus spears by ethylene absorbent in combination with CO2 and O2 in polyethylene bag
Asparagus spears stored in CO2:O2 1.5:15.0 percent (by volume) + EA 0 percent (by weight) had the most fiber content 2.32 percent. Ethylenes content, fresh weight loss and spear length slightly increased as storage time increased. TSS changing during storage had a range of 5.80-9.40 brix. EA and CO2: O2 proportion had non impact on TSS changing during storage. Asparagus spears stored in CO2: O2 1.0:10.0 percent (by volume) + EA 2.0 percent (by weight) showed the least fresh weight loss of 0.50 percent. The longest shelf life of 35 day found in asparagus spears stored in CO2: O2 0.0:1.0, 0.5:5.0. 1.5:15.0 percent (by volume) + EA 3.0 and 4.0 percent (by weight) while the shortest shelf life only 21 days found in asparagus spears stored in CO2: O2 1.5:15.0, 1.0:10.0 percent (by volume) + EA 0.0, 1.0 and 2.0 percent (by weight).
