A survey on the Aspergillus group and aflatoxin B contamination in brown rice in Bangkok, Thailand
The incidence of Aspergillus group in brown rice were determined around Bangkok, Thailand, and 20 samples were collected from 13 different areas. From each sample group, 400 seeds were randomly taken and culture in moist filter paper in a plastic chamber. Of their seed samples, 2.5% showed growth of the Aspergillus group, which were then isolates and cultured on yeast extract sucrose medium. Of the 15 isolates, 11 were aflatoxin B –producing. Based on quantitative analysis, aflatoxin B. Ultraviolet C (254 nm) treatment with a distance of 30 cm for 0-120 min on 10 aflatoxigenic isolates in the PDA and YCSD medium has no significant effect on mycelium growth and aflatoxin B production. on the other hand, aflatoxin B contamination of brown rice was analyzed using ELISA to be as low as 0.67-6.77 ppb.
