Isolation and Pathogenicity Test of Pestalotiopsis sp. on Harvested Longan Fruit cv. Daw  Longan (Dimocarpus longan Lour.) fruit cv. Daw has a very short shelf-life under normal ambient conditions. The fruit begins to rot a few days after harvesting and this has been considered to be one of the most serious postharvest problems of longan cultivation. Pestalotiopsis sp. a common mold found on either healthy or rotting longan fruit skin have been indicated to be one of the causal agents. In this study 5 isolates of Pestalotiopsis sp. were isolated from rotten and healthy fruits and the pathogenicity of a selected isolate, Pestalotiopsis LYLP was studied. Spore suspension at 106 spores/ml was prepared from 12 day old culture on potato dextrose agar. Surface sterilized longan fruits were inoculated by dipping the fruits in the spore suspension then incubated in a foam tray. Germination of spores was observed 3 hours later. The secondary mycelia were observed at hour 12. Whole surface of the inoculated fruit was covered with white cottony mycelia and abundant black conidial masses were found and the fruits were rotten on day 5. Species identification and the mean to control this pathogenic fungus are being studied.
