Rootstock and Interstem Influence the Skin Colour of Masmuda Mango

Fruits at a commercial maturity stage were harvested from trees that were grafted it mango rootstocks and interstem of different varieties. The interstems from different varieties were initially grafted o­n mango rootstock of Telor variety and Masmuda scion was later grafted o­n interstem. Rootstocks seemed to influence the skin colour of Masmuda mango when ripe. Masmuda fruits from most rootstocks were able to turn yellow upon ripening with some fruits having greenish incolour o­n their skin whilst, fruits from some rootstock, turned to almost full yellow compared to fruits front the control "felor rootstock that were usually yellowish green in colour. Interstems were also showed e beneficial effect o­n skin colour of Masmuda mango. The skin colour of fruits from all interstems including interstem of Telor variety wag found able to change colour from green to yellow or full yellow when ripe. Rootstock and interstem, however, did not generally show much influence o­n other quality attributes such as flesh colour, total soluble solids and acid contents of Masmada mango.
